READER REVIEWS:
Of Stan Brush's Farewell the Winterline, Memoirs of a Boyhood in India

3-6-2000:

Stan, I have the pleasure to know your daughter Cynthia, and now I feel I know you as well. So enjoyed your book Farewell The Winterline. Being married to a Brit from Cornwall the past 30 yrs. made many of the references much more humorous. Your youthful scrapes and adventures did indeed push the limits of the times ("blotted your copybook"), but it was a most enjoyable read. I learned a new meaning for 'dingbat'--(not my neighbor down the road) and loved all your lovingly drawn touches as well as the fine cover and layouts that you both collaborated upon. All the art and photos made it come alive and does indeed record a time and place which will never again be with us, Thank you for writing about your early life.

"I've just finished your father's book and enjoyed it thoroughly. As a former teacher of writing, I can say it was excellently written...I feel most fortunate to have found this reference to my uncle on the Internet. My time was richly rewarded."

2-27-2003:

"I finished reading FTW a couple of days ago. It is a beautiful book. The language is lyrical, and the narrative and the photographs evoked so many memories of life in India - the hills, boarding school, the missionaries with whom I had some contact, especially at Mount Hermon School, and other facets of life prior to and during World War II.

And being a romantic at heart...I was delighted to see the "happy ending".

And the copious photographs stimulated the imagination where my aging memory was failing.

Please tell Stanley how much I enjoyed reading his book, and give him congratulations from an old India-wallah."
