LONDON:
Sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar has said there
is no rift between him and his daughter Norah
Jones, winner of five personal Grammy awards,
and they are "the best of friends now."
"I've not been able to speak to Norah yet,
but I have sent her an e-mail and left her a message,"
Shankar, who watched the awards ceremony on television
in Delhi, told the Guardian newspaper in an interview

CULTURAL CONNECTIONS:
The Cultural Influences of the Indian sub-continent have enriched Art, Music, Poetry, Literature, Fashion & Furnishings for thousands of years. We'd love to continue that heritage and support individual artists, authors, designers, craftspeople, musicians, & poets, who embellish our spirits with their creativity and inspiration. Please share your recommendations with our readers.
Though familiar with his name for years, I've only recently read Rabindranath Tagore's "Gitanjali" (Garland of Songs) - an exquisite collection of spiritual poetry. Hope you'll appreciate the devotional sweetness of this selection.
Gitanjali - Verse XXXIV
by Rabindranath Tagore
Let only that little be left of me whereby I may name thee my all.
Let only that little be left of my will whereby I may feel thee on every side, and come to thee in everything, and offer to thee my love every moment.
Let only that little be left of me whereby I may never hide thee.
Let only that little of my fetters be left whereby I am bound with thy will, and thy purpose is carried out in my life -- and that is the fetter of thy love.
If you'd like an inexpensive copy of Gitanjali.....get one here.

Another artistic treat worth experiencing is Norah Jones' heart-felt CD "Come Away With Me" on the Blue Note label, which won 8 Grammies last month!
The musical genre is a mix of blues, jazz, soul, latin & country with some subtle nods to Indian percussion rhythms. Norah is a tremendously gifted young (23) musician - an accomplished pianist & songwriter with a surprising, wonderfully husky rich voice (smoke & honey as one reviewer states). Because of her Indian heritage - father is Ravi Shankar - we thought some of you might wish to try an earful of her music.
Here's a link to hear a few partial cuts from the album.
